I have been writing a lot about success lately – The Other 90% you don't see that is required to be successful. One element that is under utilized is good habits. We often focus on our bad habits, what we need to change and how difficult it can be to make those changes. By claiming how difficult it is to change we are actually setting an intention for that to be the outcome!! Not exactly what we thought we were intending! Yes, ever time you declare just how difficult it is or will be to change that old habit, your subconscious mind is being programmed to help you do just that, and you can be sure it will. We struggle with changing our habits not realizing that it doesn't need to be so challenging. There is a better way.
When you learn to put your attention on WHAT YOU WANT instead of what you do NOT want you experience a shift that will affect your results. Most of us are trained to look at our problems and challenges, our lack and short comings, what we need to improve. But a far more effective method of making changes is to acknowledge what you want to change and then focus on the result you desire.
Let's look at an easy example. You understand that having Great Habits will help to catapult you forward on your path to success. When something is a habit we JUST DO IT on a regular schedule and without thinking about it. Perhaps you have read how important it can be to journal daily. It helps us to get our thoughts down and give us an opportunity to do a little brain storming. But so often we just don't get around to it. Aha! Time to develop a habit so we JUST DO IT! Let go of any negative thoughts – can't, won't, don't. Instead, any tine you become aware of those type of thoughts entering your conscious mind just replace them with a preformed positive thought- I am getting better at my journaling, I can't wait to sit down and write today, it is easy and fun to journal daily, I am so pleased with myself for be committed to my journaling! Don't resist the negative thoughts – just notice them and replace them. This process is very helpful with almost any change in your habit you desire to make. It is only a small change in the way you are trying to make your changes, but it will make a big difference in your outcome.
What new habit would you like to create? Pick one that you have motivation around that will create a change that is important to you. Then try this method. Create a plan, when, where, how you are going to take this new action. Then focus you attention on the doing of it – no room in your mind for the negative or resistance to making this positive change. It can also be helpful to have a friend or family member to be accountable to. Just be sure they are also able to focus on the positive.
READY! SET! GO FOR IT! I would love to here from you – let me know how your new habit is coming!!
